#   The verb dare is very special (A)[thanks to its] different forms and definitely should be examined more thoroughly. This bachelor thesis attempted to bring together (B)[given information] to clarify how the verb is used in what contexts. ['dare'의 'blend 현상']

본동사로 사용되면서 조동사로도 사용되는 섞임 현상을 말한다. 시험 문제로 나오지는 않을 것이므로 이해만 하고 있으면 된다.

My daughter dares defy me. "딸이 감히 내 말을 거부한다."

'dares'에 '-s'가 붙어 있으므로 본동사로 사용되는데 뒤에 원형(defy)이 따르는 'blend 현상'이다.

I do not dare open the blinds. "나는 감히 눈가리개를 펼칠 수 없다."

'do not'이 사용되었으므로 'dare'는 본동사이므로 'to open'이 따라야 하는데 조동사 뒤인 양 원형인 'open'이 사용되고 있다.

I gave him the money and they told me to walk on and not look back because they would be following me. I didn't dare look back. "나는 그에게 돈을 주었고 그들은 내게 계속 걷고 뒤돌아 보지 말라고 했다. 나를 뒤따르고 있게 될 거니까. 나는 감히 뒤돌아 볼 수 없었다."

'didn't'이 사용되었다는 것은 'dare'는 본동사란 뜻인데도 그 뒤에 원형인 'look'이 사용되고 있다.

"이거 보이지? 감히 대통령을 모욕하는 자는 누구든 이런 운명이 될 거야."

'dares'가 본동사로 사용되고 있는데도 조동사인 양 뒤에 '원형'이 따르고 있다.
