[핵심 문법] 관계사 앞 전치사의 선행사 결정형

They were all astonished at the rapidity with / *of / *to which she had learned to speak Korean.

"그들은 모두 그녀가 한국어를 말하는 법을 배웠던 속도에 놀랐다."

'which'의 선행사가 'the rapidity'이므로 '~ the rapidity'로 파악해서 전치사는 'with'를 써야 한다. 이처럼 선행사를 보고 전치사를 결정하는 것을 ‘전치사의 선행사 결정형’이라 한다.

The ease with which abalones can be collected from the shores has almost resulted in their extinction.

"전복은 해안가에서 쉽게 채집할 수 있어서 거의 전복의 멸종을 초래했다."

선행사 'ease'를 보고 전치사가 'with' 임을 알 수 있다. (with ease)
