동등 비교로 'by as much'와 'as quickly'와 상관 관계사로 'at such expense'가 다 같이 뒤의 'as'와 연결된 것이며 'has' 뒤에는 과거 분사인 'increased'가 생략되어 있다.

to get to know every student

'get to 부정사'는 'be to 부정사'('be to 용법')와 비슷한 성격으로 여기서는 '~하게 되다'로 해석한다.

'There'는 장소 부사로 존재문과 상관없고 정관사 'the'가 붙은 'the school'이 나올 수 있다.

[해설]

'that'가 있으면 삽입 처리가 되지 않은 것이고 그러면 'that 명사절'에 주어 자리가 흔적 자리가 되어서 주어 고정 조건(fixed subject condition)을 위배하게 된다. 'that'을 탈락시켜 'we are convinced'를 삽입 처리하고 이때 'the thing' 뒤에는 주격 관계사인 'which'나 'that'은 본문처럼 zero 관계사(생략)를 사용할 수 있다.
