     "Like who?" Reacher asked.

#2.    Daav's voice sounded--odd. The dark eyes that looked down into hers seemed dazzled. Indeed, she felt herself dazzled, wanting only to stand there, touched and touching, and gazing into his eyes, until it was time to dance again.

     Abruptly, Daav cleared his throat, swayed back a step, breaking their gaze as his hand fell from her waist.

     "Let us return to the others."

     There were new faces around the table, and a shortage of chairs. Clonak came to his feet on the bounce. "We contrive," he announced, gesturing toward his empty place.

      "My captain to sit here."

      Daav lifted an eyebrow, but sat as he was bade.

    "So. And my goddess to sit here." A hand in the middle of her back propelled her forward, to land with surprised grace on Daav's knee.

    "Temporary quarters only," Clonak assured her, and struck a pose. "Chairs or death!" He bustled away, to general laughter.

     Aelliana bit her lip. "I--beg your pardon," she stammered, looking down into Daav's eyes. "I shall stand."

    "What? Forgo the best seat in the house?" Frad demanded, turning from his redhead with a grin. "Besides, Daav wants sitting (C)[    ], now and then."

     The others laughed. ~ ~

[#2. 해석]    다브의 목소리는 들렸다 -- 이상하게. 그녀의 눈을 내려다보던 검은 눈은 황홀해하고 있었다. 사실 그녀의 느낌도 황홀경이어서 오로지 거기 서서, 서로 접촉하며 다시 춤출 때까지 그의 눈을 응시하고 싶었다.

      갑자기 다브는 헛기침을 하면서 한 스텝 물러나면서 손을 허리에서 내리며 시선을 거두었다.

      "자, 일행에게 돌아갑시다."

     테이블 주변에는 새로운 얼굴들이 있어서 자리가 부족했다. 클로낙은 벌떡 일어났다. "우린 어떻게든 만들어내죠."라고 그는 크게 말하면서 자신의 빈자리를 가리켰다.

     "대위님 여기 앉으시죠."

     다브는 인상을 썼지만 순순히 따라 앉았다.

     "그래. 제 여신께서 여기 앉으시죠." 그녀의 등 가운데 있는 누군가의 손이 그녀를 앞으로 밀었고 놀랐지만 우아하게 다브의 무릎에 앉게 되었다.

     "임시 숙소일 뿐입니다."라고 단언하듯 말하면서 포즈를 취했다. "의자가 아니면 죽음을!" 그는 기운차게 사라졌고 전부가 웃었다.

     엘리아나는 입술을 물었다. "저, 죄송한데요. 저 서있을래요."라고 중얼거리듯 말하면서 다브의 눈을 내려다보았다.

     "뭐시라고요? 이집 최고의 자리를 버리시겠다고요?"라고 프래드가 따지면서 그의 빨강 머리 여자에게서 눈길을 돌리면서 씩 웃었다. "게다가 다브는 깔고 앉아 닦달을 해야 돼요. 가끔은."
      일행들이 모두 웃었다. ~ ~

[어휘 또는 표현]

"Like who?" : 'whom'을 대신해서 사용된 'who'에 해당된다.
