You can tell he's completely in his element when he's talking about fossils. 

"화석에 대해 얘기하고 있을 때 그는 완전히 즐거워하고 있다고 말할 수 있다."

My mother is in her element in the kitchen and can make just about any dish.

 "우리 엄마는 부엌에 있을 때 신이 난다. 거의 어떤 요리도 만들 수 있다."

There were several old military men at the party; when we started talking about the world wars, they were in their element. "파티에 몇 명의 나이 든 군 출신들이 있었다. 우리가 세계의 전쟁들에 대해 얘기하기 시작했을 때 그들은 득의한 상태였다."

glitch [glitʃ] : (미 속어) (기계·계획 등의) 자그마한 결함 : 작은 기술상의 문제, (전기 기구 등의) 갑작스러운 고장, 부조; [천문] 글리치, 주기의 급변; 펄서의 펄스 주기의 갑작스러운 변화 : a sudden surge of current : hence 'malfunction, hitch' in astronautical slang  [어원 불명, 아마도 Yiddish glitsh : slippery area]

What Carpenter dreaded was the (A)[glitch] that no one had thought about.
