2) (비격식) [사람·물건을] (곧) 좋아하게 되다; ~에 (곧) 순응하다 : form a liking for someone [ㅎ 곁을 주다]

[곁을 주다] : 다른 사람으로 하여금 자기에게 가까이할 수 있도록 속을 터주다

자기 마음과 힘을(재귀 목적어 생략형) 발에 주는 데서, 결국 보이는 것은 발뿐인 데서 'show one's heels'나 'show a clean pair of heels'를 사용할 수도 있다. [우리말은 '다리가 안 보이게 줄행랑을 치다'라고 하는 데 영어 모국어 화자들은 '다리만 보이게 도망친다고 표현하는 겁니다.]
