→ Had I known, I would have written before.

"충분히 돈이 있었더라면 그들은 이 멋진 가구를 샀었을 것이다."

→ They would have bought this fancy furniture had they had enough money.

Had Mark been in charge, it wouldn't have happened. "마크가 책임자였다면 그건 일어나지 않았을 거야."

Had the management acted sooner, the strike wouldn't have happened. 

"경영진이 더 빨리 행동에 나섰다면 파업은 일어나지 않았을 것이었다."

I might, to-day, have been a better and thus a happier man, had I less frequently rejected the counsels embodied in those meaning whispers which I then but too cordially and too bitterly despised.

★ 'not'까지 함께 도치하지 않는 것이 원칙이다. 'had not'이 앞으로 나온 문장을 보게 되면 좋지 않은 문장으로 여기면 된다.

뒤에 'been'이 있으므로 'had'가 사용되어야 하는 데 'had not'을 같이 앞으로 도치시킨 것은 좋은 글은 아니라고 한다.

원칙적으로 좋지 않다고 하지만 「앵무새 죽이기」에 인용한 글이다.
