'A and B'로 병치된 것을 '일반 병치'라 하고 'both A and B'처럼 앞과 뒤로 짝을 이뤄 병치된 것을 '상관 병치'라 한다.

'also'는 생략되기도 한다.

'also' 대신 'as well'이 쓰이기도 한다.

Not only can he make people laugh, (but) he can make them cry as well.

절이 병치된 경우에도 'but'가 생략되기도 한다.

간혹 'too'가 쓰이기도 한다.

'not solely' 다음에 세미콜론을 쓰고 'also'도 생략된 경우이다.
