[어휘 또는 표현]

moisturizer [mɔ́isʧəràizər] : (습도를 유지해 주는) 피부 로션[크림], 모이스처 크림[로션]

staple¹ : (종이를 철할 때 쓰는) 꺾쇠, 스테이플 : (Old English stapol : post, column → Middle E stapel : stake, support, post) [꺾쇠로 철하면 종이는 기둥처럼 바뀌죠.]

생각이 나서, 그러고 보니 : by the way (말이 났으니 말인데, 그런데); now that I think about it; a set phrase when one has had a sudden realization ( = thinking about it); I just remembered.

"(As I) come to think of it, I should go too. And you should be sure to take your driver's license with you to the polls if you are heading out to vote.

"생각이 난 김에 하는 말인데 나도 가야겠네. 그리고 당신도 꼭 운전면허증 가지고 가. 투표하러 투표소에 가는 거면."

원래 'as I come to think of it'에서 'as I'가 줄어들면서 'come to think of it'이 굳어진(set) 표현인데 'coming to think of it'은 사용하지 않는다. 대신 'thinking about it'을 사용할 수는 있다.

I might need a new bike. Come to think of it, this one is over five years.

"어, 새 자전거 사야겠네. 그러고 보니(생각해 보니) 이건 5 년이 넘었네."

A : Was she here on Friday?

shrimp [ʃrimp] : 작은 새우; 꼬마, 난쟁이; 보잘것없는 사람 : (Old E scrimman : to shrink → Middle High German schrimpfen : to contract → Middle E shrimpe) [마치 움츠린(shrink) 모습에서, 새우젓의 새우를 생각하면 된다.]

prawn [prɔːn]: 대하; 참새우 ('lobster'와 'shrimp'의 중간 크기의 수염이 긴 새우의 총칭) : (Middle E prane : 어원 불명) [ㅎ 우리가 중국 집에서 먹는 대하는 'prawn'이다.]
