# Man is gifted with reason; he is life being aware of itself; he has awareness of himself, of his fellow man, of his past, and of the possibilities of his future. This awareness of himself as a separate entity, the awareness of his own short life span, of the fact that without his will he is born and against his will he dies, that he will die before those whom he loves, or (A)[        ] before him, the awareness of his aloneness and separateness, of his helplessness before the forces of nature and of society, all this makes his separate, disunited existence an unbearable prison. [해석] 인간은 이성을 부여받아 있다. 인간은 스스로를 인식하는 생명체이다. 자기 인식을 한다. 자기 동료, 자기 과거, 자기 미래의 가능성에 대해 인식한다. 별개의 객체라는 스스로에 대한 인식, 삶의 기간의 짧음에 대한 인식 자기 의지와 상관없이 태어나고 의지에 반하여 죽게 된다는 사실, 자신이 사랑하는 사람들보다 먼저 죽게 된다는 또는 자신보다 그들이 먼저 죽게 된다는 사실, 즉 고독한 별개의 존재라는 인식, 자연과 사회의 힘 앞에서의 자신의 무기력함에 대한 인식을 얘기하자면 이 모든 것이 그의 별도의 통합되지 못한 존재를 참을 수 없는 감옥으로 만든다. 인간은 이러한 감옥에서 스스로를 해방시켜 나아가 스스로를 어떤 형태로든 다른 사람들, 즉 외부 세계와 통합시킬 수 없으면 미쳐버리게 될 것이다.

기능사 도치로 인해서 'if'가 탈락된 현상이다.

앞에 나온 'will die'를 중간 생략시키면 내용상 'they'만 남게 된다.
