[believe (something) of (someone)]

~이 가능하다고 생각하다, ~의 짓이라고 생각하다; (보통 부정문 또는 'would'와 함께) 남이 ~할 수 있다고 생각하다  : to accept that a statement about someone is true, to accept a statement about someone as truth; to think that (something such as behavior, usually bad) could be done by (someone); believe that someone is capable of a particular (kind of) action  ['of'는 출처나 속성으로 생각하면 된다.]

I can't believe these lies of Cheryl!--I have always known her to be a very reputable businesswoman.

'Him'을 맨 앞으로 이동시키고 흔적 자리를 남기는 이동을 '(문) 화제화 or 주제화 선행'(Thematic fronting or topicalization)이라고 한다. 앞으로 가져다 놓고 문장의 주제(theme)로 삼아서 말하는 표현법이다. 화제화 선행을 시킬 때는 이동 후에 흔히 'comma'를 사용하지 않지만 드물게는 사용하기도 한다.

Whiteside, I could believe it of him. "화이트사이드로 말하면, 난 그놈이 그럴 수 있다고 생각해."

'comma'로 반드시 분리시켜서 화제화 시키고 원래 자리에는 대명사로 복제하는 표현법을 '좌향 전위'(Left Dislocation)라 칭한다.

본문은 'comma'가 없으므로 화제화 (선행)이고 흔적 자리 앞에는 전치사 'of'가 사용되어야 한다.
