#  빈칸 (A)에 적합한 단어는?

​

[해석] 기차의 움직임이 그를 졸리게 만들고 있었다. 그전에 호텔로 뛰어 돌아가는 데 많은 에너지를 사용했고 계속된 긴장이 그를 [그의 신경을] 건드리기[짜증 나게 하기] 시작했다. 그의 몸이 휴식을 열망했었던 것이죠.

[해설] 자꾸 건드려 짜증 나게 하는 것은 'get to'를 사용합니다.

[get to]

'get to 부정사'는 'be to 용법'과 비슷한데 다른 데서 다룹니다. 여기서는 'to'가 전치사인 것만 다룹니다.

1) ~에 도착하다 : reach, arrive

We didn't get to the hotel until midnight. "한밤중이 될 때까지 호텔에 도착하지 못했다."

2) ~로 사라지다 : to disappear to (somewhere)

Where did you get to? I've been looking for you everywhere. 

"어디로 사라졌던 거야? 찾아서 온 동네를 뒤졌는데."

3) ~에 이르다 : to reach (a part or stage)

Their argument got to the stage of pointless bad temper. "그들의 논쟁은 의미 없이 성질부리는 단계에 이르렀다."

4) 착수하다, 시작하다 : to start

We're gonna do it, let's get to it. "우린 그거 할 거야. 자 시작합시다."

착수, 시작하려면 그쪽으로 가야 한다. 'down'이 붙은 'get down to ~'는 '본격적으로 시작하다'의 뜻이다.

5) ~에게 이해되다 : to be understood by (someone)

I've tried to help the troublesome boy, but I can't seem to get to him.

"그 문제아를 도우려고 했지만 내 뜻이 그에게 이르지가 [이해되지가] 않는다."

내 말이 건너가 이르러야 그 뜻이 전달, 이해된 것이다.

6) 마음에 와닿다, 감동을 주다 : to have an effect on the feelings of (someone)

His sad story really got to me, and I was moved to help him. 

"그의 슬픈 이야기는 내 맘에 와닿았고 나는 그를 도울 마음이 생겼다."

감동적인 이야기나 훌륭한 노래가 와닿으면 감동적인 것이다.

Beethoven's violin concerto really gets to me -- I almost start crying when I hear it because it's so beautiful.

"베토벤의 바이올린 콘체르토는 정말로 내 마음에 와닿는다. 난 그걸 들을 때 너무 아름답기 때문에 거의 울기 시작한다."

7) 건드리다, 짜증 나게 하다 : to annoy or upset (someone) by persistent action

Don't let him get to you. "그가 당신을 건드리게[짜증 나게] 하도록 허용치 마라." [ㅎ 게 신경 끊어요.]

누군가의 손이나 말이 자꾸 닿아서 (신경을) 건드리면 짜증이 나는 겁니다.

8) 매수하다 : attempt to influence (someone) wrongly as by paying money or performing favors so as to persuade him to do or not do something

Somebody must have been getting to the guards; the doors were all unlocked.

"누군가가 경비들에게 다가가 매수를 한 것이 틀림없다. 문이 다 락이 풀려 있었다."

다가가서 조용히 말하면서 매수 행위를 할 수 있다.

[pull ~ to pieces]

1) (댕겨서) 뜯어내 조각내다  : pull something to pieces : to separate (something) into parts, often with force 

여기서 'to'는 변화의 발생을 의미한다. 'pull'은 '댕기다'에서 나아가 '뽑다, 뜯다 뜻으로도 쓰인다.

The dog has pulled the newspaper to pieces again! "개가 신문을 뜯어내 조각을 내어놓았다."

2) 심하게 헐뜯다  :  pull something / someone to pieces : to find severe fault with something such as someone's work or someone :

누군가 또는 누군가의 일 같은 것을 갈기 갈기 찢어 조각내다(심하게 헐뜯다)

Pull yourself together. Stop behaving like a baby. "정신 차려라. 아기처럼 구는 거 그만하고."

I know you can't stop crying. Just pull it together. "알아 눈물을 멈출 수 없는 거는. 그냥 정신 좀 차리라고."

비슷한 뜻으로 'gather oneself together'(마음을 다잡다)를 사용하기도 한다.

Gather yourself together and begin to work. "정신을 다잡고 일을 시작해라."

[다잡다]  들뜨거나 어지러운 마음을 가라앉혀 바로잡다.

You have to get yourself together. No one can do it for you. "정신 다잡아라. 누구도 너 대신해줄 수 없다."

'get oneself together'(to control oneself)도 같은 뜻으로 쓰이기도 합니다.
