What they want boils down to just one thing. It is land. 

"그들이 원하는 걸 요약하면 바로 한 가지다. 그건 땅이다."

Your essay is far too long. Please try to cut any superfluous text and boil it down to about 10 pages.

The issue really boils down to whether customers will be willing to pay more for the same product or not.

Mind you, most books I seem to read these days could probably be boiled down to a sentence.

[해설]

(A) put on ~ : ~을 입다  [원래 'on' 뒤에 있던 것을 이해해야 해석이 된다. 옷은 몸 위에 놓는 것이죠.]

(B) put up with ~ : ~을 참다 : to bear or suffer; ~와 함께 지내다 : to stay with ~

(C) put up or shut up : 콜 하든지 아니면 찌그러져 있든지.

['put'과 'up'의 의미 : put up (with)]

A : Can you put us up for the weekend?  "우릴 (올려서) 숙박 가능하죠?"     

B : We can put up two adults, but no children. "어른 두 명은 가능. 아이들은 불가."

'put'의 목적어는 나와 있는 경우이죠. 바닥보다 집 안이 위쪽이죠. 'up'은 '집 위로'의 뜻입니다.

A : Where can we put up tonight? "오늘 우리 어디에서 묵죠?"

B : We can put up at the hotel, or with friends. 

"호텔에 (올라가서) 묵을 수도 있고 친구들 집에서 (2 층에서) 묵을 수도 있다."

'put'의 목적어도 'up(on)'의 목적어도 안 나온 경우입니다. 목적어는 당연히 주어와 같은 재귀 목적어인데 생략합니다. 'up(on)'의 목적어는 호텔 위로 또는 친구 집 2 층인 것이죠.

put up with ~ : (1) ~에서 지내다 : to stay with

During the holidays, I put up with my grandmother, as I am not allowed to stay in college rooms.

"명절에 나는 할머니 집에서 지낸다. 학교의 기숙사에 머무는 것이 허용되지 않기 때문에."

'up'은 할머니 집 이층이라고 생각하면 쉽습니다. 재귀 목적어는 필히 생략합니다.

put up with ~ : (2) 참다, 견디다 : to bear or suffer

I can't put up with her another day. She never stops complaining. 

"하루도 더 그녀를 견딜 수가 없다. 불평이 끊이지 않는다."

'put'의 목적어는 역시 생략된 재귀 목적어입니다. 자신을 세우고 ~와 함께 하는 것은 참는 것일 수 있습니다. 한 집에 같이 머물면서 살려면 많이 참아야 합니다.

I cannot put up with your behavior any longer. "너의 그런 행동은 더 이상 참을 수가 없다." [ㅎ 그런 행동에 몸을 세우고 같이 있을 수 없다.] 

[put up or shut up]

(돈 걸고[올리고, 태우고]) (콜) 하든지 아니면 닥치고 (찌그러져) 있든지. (주먹 올리고) 한 판 붙든지 아님 (닥치고) 찌그러져 있든지.

If you say someone should put up or shut up, you mean that they should either take action in order to do what they have been talking about, or stop talking about it. "'Put up or shut up'해야 한다고 말하는 건 '지금까지 얘기해왔던 것을 하든지 아니면 말을 말든지 해야 한다'라는 뜻이다."

Basically, time to do what needs to be done or accept the undesirable result of where you are headed.

"기본적으로 행해야 할 것을 해야 될 때이고 안 그러면 현재의 상황이 진행되는 것의 바람직하지 못한 결과를 감수하라는 뜻이다."

You keep saying you're going to ask her out. Well, put up or shut up.

'put up or shut up'에서는 'put'의 목적어도 없이 'up(on)'의 목적어도 없이 사용된 경우이다. 'put'의 숨겨진 목적어는 돈이나 주먹이라고 생각하고 'up'은 판에 올리든지 혹은 주먹을 위로 올리는 것으로 이해해야 한다.

['fetch up'과 'cast up'도 토하다의 뜻으로 사용되고 영국식으로는 'bring up'(다른 뜻 많음)을 사용하기도 한다.]
