#   Atticus said I had learned many things today, and Miss Caroline had learned several things herself.     아빠는 말씀하셨어요. "넌 그래서는 안 돼. 때로는 특별한 경우들에는 법을 약간 휘어서 적용하는 게 좋아. 하지만 네 경우에는 법은 엄격하게 유지되어야 해. 그러니 너는 학교에 가야만 해."

   "겐 안 가도 되는데 전 가야만 하는 이유를 모르겠어요."

~할 정도로 어리석지는 않다 : to be aware or capable of better or smarter behavior than one has demonstrated

'not ~ no'는 부정의 강조형으로 'not ~ any'를 대신해서 사용되고 있다.

'not to read to her'는 조건절로 안 한다면 'x만큼 wise(well)'한 것이고 'not know any better'는 마찬가지로 'y만큼 wise'한 것이다'라는 뜻이다. " '선생님에게 읽어대지 않는 게' 현명한데 '그만큼 현명하지 못 했고 선생님은 나에게 책임을 물었다'"
