'so ~ that 구문'에서 종속절의 주절 만들기

[해석] 내 첫 저서의 한 외국의 출판자는 자기가 보기에 그 책의 차갑고 음울한 메시지에 아주 고통스러워서 읽은 후 사흘 밤을 잠을 잘 수가 없었다고 고백했다.

[정답] (A) : so

[해설] 

~ confessed that [he was so troubled by what he saw as its cold, bleak message that he could not sleep for three nights after reading it.]

= ~ confessed that [so troubled was he by what he saw as its cole, bleak message that he could not sleep ~]

'so troubled'을 앞으로 선행시키면 수동 조동사 was를 he 앞으로 보내서 'was he'의 순서로 위치시킨다.

= ~ confessed that [he could not sleep for three nights after reading it,(comma) so troubled was he by what he saw as its ~ message].

'that he could ~' 절을 주절로 앞으로 보낼 때는 당연히 'that'은 없애고 뒤에 'comma'를 사용하고 원인에 해당되는 'so troubled ~' 절을 위치시킨다.

'근거 제시의 for'는 사용할 수 없다. 'troubled'가 홀로 앞으로 선행될 수 없다. 

'too'는 물론 부정사와 연결되어야 하므로 사용할 수 없다.

다음 경우들도 같은 형식이다.

I was so tired that I couldn't keep my eyes open. = I couldn't keep my eyes open, I was so tired.

His position was so impregnable that he had no need to make speeches. 

"그의 지위는 아주 난공 불락이어서 그는 연설할 필요도 없었다."

So imprenable was his position that he had no need to make speeches.

= He had no need to make speeches, so impregnable was his position. 

<that절의 주절화>

She had worked so hard that she was exhausted by four. 

= She was exhausted by four, so hard had she worked.

"그녀는 4 시에는 피곤했다. 아주 열심히 일했기 때문이었다."
