[어휘 또는 표현]

even more forceful : 'even'은 비교급 앞에서 강화사 역할을 한다.

[해설]

tumescent [tjuːmésnt] : 붓는, 부어오르는; [성기가] (자극으로) 커진  : (L tumere : to swell + -scent : 시작한)

tumor [tjúːmər] : [병리] 종양; 부음, 부기 : (L tumere : to swell(부풀다)) 

a fast-growing cancerous (B)[tumor].

'암성 종양'은 'cancerous tumor'를 사용한다.

일반적으로 '가하다, 붙이다'의 뜻으로 'apply N'을 사용하지만 '밴드 에이드'가 목적어로 따르면 연어 결합력은 'stick'이 훨씬 강해진다. 그냥 ~에다가 붙이는 기분이면 'to'를 사용하고 붙이는 느낌을 강하게 나타내려면 'on'을 사용한다.

3) [자금 등을] 충당하다, 돌려대다

She applied all her income to the mortgage.

4) [페인트·도포약·연고 등을] 바르다; [테이프·접착제 등을] 붙이다

Apply the paint evenly to each surface. "각 표면에 페인트를 평형하게 칠하시오."

Apply the cream to your foot once a day to reduce the inflammation. 

"염증을 줄이기 위해서 하루에 한 번 그 크림을 발에 바르세요."

Have you applied the frosting to the cake yet? (frosting : 당의) "케이크에 아직 당의를 입히지 않았어?"

Apply the decal to the surface of the glass.  (decal [díːkæl] : 데칼코마니; 판박이 그림)  

"유리 표면에 판박이 그림을 붙이세요."

You must apply the glue to the paper sparingly, or else the paper will wrinkle. 

"종이 위에 조금씩 아교를 붙이세요. 안 그러면 종이가 구겨지게 됩니다."

She applied the lotion gently to her sunburned arms. "햇빛에 탄 팔에 로션을 부드럽게 바르세요." 

How do I apply eye ointment? "눈 연고는 어떻게 바르는 거죠?"

During this last period he used no mercury--he only applied some ointment to his sores.

He applies pressure to get what he wants. "그는 원하는 것을 얻기 위해서 압력을 가했다."

Do not apply heat for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time. "한 번에 5내지 10 분 이상 열을 가하지 마라."

He screamed as Morgan applied pressure. "모건이 압박을 가하자 그는 비명을 질렀다."

6) [마음·정신 등을] 전념하다, 집중시키다

In the summer I relaxed, but in the fall I applied myself to my studies.
