# Oh, for Pete's sake. This one is impossible. He disappeared. He just stopped calling you or writing you or seeing you out of the blue. You were in what you considered some sort of "relationship." You felt that whatever you had together warranted even the tiniest explanation if one of you decided to call it (A)[         ]. But instead, there's silence. No explanation, no good-bye. 'what'은 무시하고 'relationship'으로 이어지려면 'in'을 사용해야 한다.

느닷없이, 뜻밖에 : suddenly and unexpectedly ['blue'는 파란 하늘(out of a clear blue sky)을 의미하고 갑자기 '벼락(thunderbolt)'이치는 것을 말한다. 우리 말로는 '청천 벽력(bolt out of the blue)'과 같다고 하나요. '마른하늘에 날벼락'이라고 하나요? 아니면 좀 야하게 '아닌 밤중에 홍두깨'라고 하나요?]

1) to stop working

I've still got a few jobs to do around the ranch before I can call it quits for the day.

"오늘 일을 끝내려면 농장 근처에 몇 가지 할 일들이 아직 있다."

2) to end a partnership of some kind, often a romantic relationship

5) to decide to end an argument, a disagreement, etc. at a point where both sides are equal

바람 맞히다; 버리고 가다 : to walk out on; to leave someone

James agreed to go on a date with Ella, but bailed on her at the last time.

"제임스는 엘라와 데이트하기로 약속했지만 마지막에 가서 엘라를 바람 맞혔다."

Come on, I highly doubt that Angela would bail on you after one fight.

"왜 이래, 한 번 싸우고 안젤라가 자넬 버렸다는 거 정말 말도 안 돼."

It comes from bail as in "bail out" of an aircraft in danger. To suddenly exit to save yourself, leaving the plane to crash. If someone bail on you, you are the plane, and they are leaving you to do what they want. "위험한 상태의 비행기에서 '낙하산을 타고 탈출하는' 데서 나온 표현이다. 갑자기 살려고 비행기는 추락하게 두는 거죠. 누군가가 당신을 'bail on'하면 당신이 추락하는 비행기인 셈이고 그는 당신을 버리고 떠나는 거죠. 자신의 원하는 것을 하기 위해서요."
