# 'In her heart (A)[ ] hearts'는 셰익스피어의 햄릿에서는 'heart'로 단수 사용되었고 'Thousands of years of civilization had made (B)[ ] suicide a taboo'는 영문법으로 맞지 않지만 포르투갈어를 'Margaret Jull Costa'가 번역 상의 이유에서인지 쓰지 않아도 될 것을 (B)에 넣고 있고 'He doubtless had the best (C)[ ] intentions'에서는 소위 말하는 죽마 표현(Stilt expressions)을 사용하고 있다. 이를 참고해서 (A), (B), (C)에 공통으로 들어갈 단어를 넣으시오.

[해석] 하지만 그녀의 깊은 마음속에는 여전히 의심이 있었다. 만약 신이 존재하면 어떻게 되는 겁니까? 수천 년의 문명이 자살을 금기시했으며 모든 종교의 법에 모욕이 되게 했다. 인간은 살기 위해 투쟁한다. 죽기 위해서가 아니다. 인간은 아이를 낳아야만 한다. 사회는 일꾼이 필요하다. 부부는 함께 해야 될 이유를 가져야만 한다. 심지어 사랑은 더 이상 존재하지 않을 때에도 그렇다. 그리고 나라는 군인과 정치인과 예술가들을 필요로 한다.

만일 신이 존재하면, 사실 존재한다고 나는 믿지 않지만 그는 인간의 이해에는 한계가 있음을 알고 있을 것이다. 그는 가난, 불의, 탐욕, 고독이 존재하는 이런 혼란을 만들어낸 분이 바로 신이었으니까요. 신은 분명 최선의 의도가 있었겠지만 그 결과는 참혹한 것으로 드러났죠. 신이 존재하면 이 지구를 일찍 떠나기로 선택한 그런 피조물들에게 관대하실 겁니다. 그리고 우리로 여기에서 살게 하셨던 것에 대해 심지어 사과하실 수도 있습니다.

[in one's heart (of hearts)]

마음속으로, 마음속 깊은 곳에서 : in one's innermost nature or deepest feelings; fundamentally

셰익스피어는 햄릿에서 'in one's heart of heart'로 단수로 사용해서 반복을 이용해서 깊은 곳을 강조했는데 이후에 마치 여러 심장들 중에서도 심장의 의미로 복수형을 사용해 왔다.

He knew, in his heart of hearts, that the news would be bad.

"마음 깊은 곳에서 그는 그 소식이 좋지 않을 것임을 알았다."

It's a wonderful job offer, but in my heart of hearts I don't want to leave this area. "그건 멋진 일자리 제안이지만 마음 깊은 곳에선 이 지역을 떠나고 싶지 않다."

원래 'make 목적어 목적보어'이므로 'of'를 사용할 필요가 없는데 번역상의 이유에서인지 몰라도 'of'를 사용하고 있다.

He doubtless had the best (C)[of] intentions

조금 젠체하는 죽마 표현으로 'best' 뒤에 'intention'은 사용하지 않고 'of'를 흔히 사용하는 표현이다.
