[해석]  가난으로부터의 탈출은 돈에 관한 것으로 생각하기 쉽다. 돈을 더 많이 갖게 되면 충분한 자금이 없어서 당신과 당신의 가족들을 파멸시킬 수 있는 비상사태가 닥쳐올 거라고 두려움으로 내일 충분한 돈이 있을까 통렬한 걱정을 하면서 살 필요가 없는 것에 관한 것으로 생각하기 쉽다. 돈은 정말로 얘기의 핵심부이다. 하지만 돈만큼이나 중요하고 아니 돈보다 더욱더 중요한 것은 더 나은 건강과 번창할 기회를 가질 수 있도록 충분히 오래 살 가능성의 향상이다. 자녀들이 죽게 될 거라는 지속적인 두려움을 갖고 또 그것이 자주 현실이 되는 부모들은, 또 5 명이 살아서 성인이 되게 하려고 10 명의 자녀들을 낳는 어머니들은 그들 중 많은 이들의 머리에서 떠나지 않는 돈에 관한 걱정들을 악화시키는 무시무시한 빈곤을 반영한다. 역사 이래로 또 오늘날 전 세계적으로 아이들의 질병과 사망, 성인들의 거듭된 발병 상태, 그리고 가혹한 빈곤은 그 집안들을 종종 공격하는 파트너들인데 이들은 너무나 자주 그런 짓들을 한다.

[어휘 또는 표현]

[해설]

'some emergency {[for which there will not be enough funds] and [which will sink you and your family]} will come'으로 쓰면 주어부는 엄청 길고 술부만 [will come] 뒤에 달랑 따르는 가분수형 문장이 된다. 이럴 때 짧은 술부를 먼저 쓰고 긴 관계절은 뒤로 ★분리시키는 것이 당연하다. 단 내용상 두 개의 관계절이 'some emergency'을 수식해야 한다.

But just as important, or even more so, are better health and the improved likelihood of living long enough to have the chance to prosper.

원래는 'But better health and the improved likelihood of living long enough to have the chance to prosper are just as important, or even more so.'이겠지만 'as important' 뒤에 생략된 'as money'가 앞에 언급된 'Money is indeed ~'와 너무 떨어져서 글을 흐름을 매끄럽게 하지 않아서 곤란하다. 우리말은 "돈은 ~하다. 그러나 돈만큼, 돈보다 더 중요한 것은 ~'으로 돈을 반복해서 사용하지만 영어는 '~ as money'나 'than money'는 중복적으로 보고 필히 생략한다. 이를 ★비교 종속절의 전체 생략이라 한다.

'even more(더욱더)' 다음에는 'important'을 대신하는 '대형태 so'를 사용해야 한다.

무서운 빈곤[원인]은 걱정을 '악화시키는' 관계일 겁니다. 'compound'가 ★제2 의미 동사로 '악화시키다'임을 알아야 합니다.
