[해설]

[get ~ over (and done) with]

~을 끝내다 : to finish something, typically something unpleasant  [get ~ over with : 'and done'이 생략된 형태도 같은 뜻으로 기억하고 있어야 한다. 그냥 'finish'를 사용하는 것보다 흔히 부정적인 함의를 갖는다.]

​The doctor told me that I have to get a shot, so let's get it over and done with.

"의사는 주사를 맞아야 한다고 말했어. 그러니 후딱 끝내버려요."

Once this is all over and done with you can have a rest. "일단 이일을 끝내면 휴식할 수 있어."

I hate housework. I just want to get it over and done with. "집안일 싫어. 그냥 후딱 끝내버리자."

My kids hate doing their homework, so when they get home, I tell them to start straight away. That way, it'll be over and done with quickly. "애들은 숙제하는 거 싫어하지, 그래서 애들이 집에 오면 바로 시작하라고 하지. 그렇게 하면 숙제는 빨리 끝나게 되지."

I'll be glad to get these exams over with. "난 기꺼이 이 시험들을 끝낼 거야."

We will have to tell him the bad news. Let's just get it over with. ['get it over'를 사용하기도 한다.]

['*get over it with'나 '*get with it over'를 사용해서는 안 된다. 'over'가 전치사로 사용되면 넘은 것이므로 '극복하다'의 뜻이 되어서 곤란하고 'get with it'은 '변화형 get'에 'with it'이 함께 한다는 뜻이므로 '주의를 기울이다', 시대에 뒤지지 않다', (속어) '열심히 하다, 골몰하다'의 뜻이 됩니다. 각각 'with'와 'over'가 불필요한 요소가 됩니다.]
