[산출 목적어 발생시키는 cut]

The policeman dug a hole in the ground.

판 대상은 땅이고 만들어진 것은 구멍이다. 이처럼 행위의 결과로 만들어진 목적어를 '산출 목적어'라 칭한다.

My son cut his first tooth this week.

자르는[뚫는] 대상은 잇몸(the gum)이고 산출 목적어는 '그의 첫 이빨(his first tooth)'이다. 우리 표현으론 '첫 이빨'을 목적어로 사용하지 않는다. "우리 아들은 이번 주에 첫 이빨이 나왔다."라고 표현할 것이다. '구멍을 팠다'라고 말하지만 '이빨을 잘랐다'라고는 우리는 말하지 않는다.
