[해석]  알란 칼손의 아버지는 사려 깊은 성격과 분노하는 성격을 모두 지녔다. 그는 자신의 가족들에겐 사려 깊었지만 전체 사회에 대해서는 분노했으며 그 사회를 대표한다고 생각될 수 있는 모든 사람에게 분노했다. 더 고결한 사람들은 아버지를 못마땅해 했는데 이는 아버지가 플렌 광장에 서서 피임 기구의 사용을 주장했던 때에 기인했다. 이 경범죄로 아버지는 10 크로네의 벌금형을 받았고 이 문제로 더 이상은 걱정할 필요를 덜게 되는데 알란의 어머니가 전적으로 수치심 때문에 자신의 몸에 더 이상의 삽입을 금지하기로 결정했기 때문이었다. 알란은 당시 6살로 조숙해서 아버지의 침대가 갑자기 장작 헛간으로 옮겨졌는지에 대해 더 자세한 설명을 해달라고 엄마에게 물었다. 귀싸대기를 맞기 원치 않으면 너무 많은 질문들을 해서는 안 된다는 대답을 들었다. 모든 시기의 아이들과 마찬가지로 알란도 귀싸대기를 맞기 싫어서 그 문제는 그만 단념했다.
