They're gaining on you; you'd better hit the gas, now!

"제들이 접근해오고 있어. 지금 가속 페달을 밟아야겠어."

This time I just hit the pedal and kept driving.

the pedal is a vehicle's gas pedal, and the metal is the floorboard(자동차의 바닥)

열라 밟다 (바닥까지) : to drive as fast as possible. A reference to the act of pushing the accelerator all the way to the floor of the car

He was late and the road was clear, so he floored it.
