#   Normally Elaine took potentially lucrative clients to one of the fancier eateries, but she did not want to risk meeting a friend and possible rival who might demand an introduction.

his many friends : '*some his friends'는 부정형 한정사와 소유 한정사의 결합 불가로 사용할 수 없는 표현이지만 ('some of his friends'나 'some friends of his'를 사용한다.) 'his many friends'는 '많은 그의 친구들 전부'를 의미하는 표현으로 사용된다.

"His many friends" means that he has many friends and he said good bye to all of them. "Many of his friends" means that he said good bye to many but not all of his friends. 

"his many friends'는 그에게 많은 친구들이 있으며 그가 그들 모두에게 굿바이라고 말했다는 것을 의미한다. 반면에 'many of his friends'는 많은 친구들에게 굿바이라고 말했지만 그게 친구들 전부를 의미하지 않는다."

He explained his many projects. = He had many projects and he explained all of them.
