  I did not say anything as I stared at the simmering pot and turned the heat down just a little.

  "Point is, count me in," Marino said, swallowing again.

   그는 사람들을 다시 합치는 일에 삶을 바치지 않은 일반 대중의 마음속에서는 항상 조금은 혼란스러워하고 종종 잠수를 타는 존재였다. 베시 박사는 세상에서 가장 훌륭한 법 인류학자였는데 전에 나를 여러 번 도와준 적이 있었다.

[해설]

(B)와 (C) : 'the'에 해당하는 단어는 'hoi'다. 'polloi'는 'many'에 해당된다.

hoi polloi [hɔ́i pəlɔ́i] : (경멸) (복수 취급) 민중, 서민, 대중, 오합지중 : (Gk hoi : the + polloi : many)
