[어휘 또는 표현]

'hope'의 목적어 절에서 흔히 현재형(does)으로 미래를 대신한다.

fever pitch : [불가산] (군중 등의) 흥분 상태, 열광 (상태) : a state of great excitement or turmoil [여기서 'pitch'는 '최고도, 정점(top), 절정'의 뜻이다.]

In the past year, the civil conflict has reached fever pitch. "지난 일 년 동안 시민의 투쟁은 최고조에 달했다."

The grief provoked by his assassination has raised tensions in the area to fever pitch.

[get to]

1) ~에 도착하다 : reach, arrive

We didn't get to the hotel until midnight. "한밤중이 될 때까지 호텔에 도착하지 못했다."

2) ~에 닿다 : to physically reach something

I just can't get to that box on the top shelf without the ladder. 

"사다리 없이는 꼭대기 선반 위의 상자에 손이 닿질 않는다."

3) ~로 사라지다 : to disappear to (somewhere)

Where did you get to? I've been looking for you everywhere. "어디로 사라졌었어? 온 동네를 다 찾아 봤는데."

Where's Annabel got to? She should be here by now. 

"애너벨은 어디로 사라진 거야? 지금쯤은 여기 와 있어야 하는데."

Where can my shoes have got to? I can't find them anywhere. 

"내 신발은 어디로 사라진 거야? 어디서도 찾을 수가 없네."

4) ~와 연락하다 : to be able to contact someone

A : Has anyone been able to get to Aunt Mildred? Is she OK? 

"누구 밀드러드 이모 연락되었어? 괜찮으시대?"

B : Yeah, I talked to her yesterday. "응, 어제 얘기 나눴어."

5) ~의 단계 이르다 : to reach (a part or stage)

Their argument got to the stage of pointless bad temper. "그들의 논쟁은 의미 없이 성질부리는 단계에 이르렀다."

6) 착수하다 : to address or tackle something, such as a task

Let me finish washing the silverware and then I'll get to those other dishes.

"먼저 은식기부터 닦고 거 다른 접시들 할게."

7) ~에게 이해되다 : to be understood by (someone)

I've tried to help the troublesome boy, but I can't seem to get to him.

"그 문제아를 도우려고 했지만 내 뜻이 그에게 이르지가 [이해되지가] 않는다."

8) 마음에 와닿다 : to have an effect on the feelings of (someone)

9) 매수하다 : attempt to influence (someone) wrongly as by paying money or performing favors so as to persuade him to do or not do something
