[해석]     방글라데시 여자들은 자신들이 어떻게 적은 봉급에서 작은 잉여 분을 저축하고, 소득을 관리하고, 자기들 방을 갖고, 데이트 상대와 결혼 상대를 선택하고, 준비되었을 때 자녀를 갖고, 저축한 돈을 생활 여건을 개선하고 특히나 읽고 쓰는 능력이나 구직 기술을 향상시키기 사용할 수 있었는지를 이야기했다. 아주 어렵지만 이러한 삶은 과거 세대에는 시골에서는 상상할 수 없었던 경제적인 기회로 한 단계 전진한 것이다.

[어휘 또는 표현]

C : ~ able to {[save ~] [manage ~], [have ~], [choose ~], [choose to ~], and [use ~]}에서 ', and use ~'는 'last and'가 사용되고 있다. 

B : 'were able to'의 'were'에 맞춘 과거로 아무런 이상이 없다.

D : 'As hard as it is'는 '강화'와 '양보'가 겹쳐진 표현으로 '아주 힘들긴 하지만'으로 해석한다.

E : 'in generations past'는 'in past generations' 보다 쪼금 더 적은 빈도로 사용된다. 'in times past'는 'in past times' 보다 압도적으로 많이 사용된다.

A : 'say'와 'tell'

'say'는 간접 목적어 없이 내용만 전달하는 데 비하여 'tell'은 경험을 말할 때 사용한다. 'tell'은 간접 목적어를 사용한다고 하지만 의문사가 따를 경우 간접 목적어 없이 사용될 수 있다.

The women told how they had been tricked into prostitution.

"그 여자들은 어떻게 속아서 창녀가 되었는지를 (그 경험을) 이야기했다."

The woman  told / ?said  how she was shocked to hear this coming from her dating. 

"여자는 자신의 데이트에서 이 말이 나오는 것에 정말 쇼크를 받았다고 이야기했다."

A woman who was told that her visual impairment could not be treated discovered that her condition was misdiagnosed. 

"자신의 시각 결함은 치료될 수 없다고 들은 한 여자는 자신의 증세가 잘못 진단되었다는 것을 발견했다."

'be told'는 '듣다'의 뜻이므로 'who was'를 생략하고 사용될 수 있다.

The Bangladeshi women (A)[told how] they ~ : 후치 수식으로 보면 의미상으로도 이상하지만 주어인 'The Bangladeshi women'에 대한 정동사가 뒤에 없어서 곤란하다. 'told'는 과거형으로 사용된 것이 맞다.

[해설]

this life is a step (E)[on the way to] economic opportunity

'in'은 입체적인 것을 나타내므로 'in the way'는 방해하는 것이 됩니다. 'on'은 선이나 면을 나타내므로 '이동'이나 '진행'을 나타냅니다. 경제적인 기회로 한 단계 전진하는 것이므로 전치사는 'on'을 사용해야 합니다.
