#1.     I knew from weary experience that it was unlikely I would be seeing Wesly this week, and there would be no rest or reading or late mornings to sleep.    "그래, 그래" 안드레아는 미소 지으며 동의했다. 게일라의 엄마로서의 걱정은 비록 엄마로서의 자기 자신에 대해서 의심을 갖고는 있지만 그 역할에 잘 적응하고 있다는 것을 시사했다. 다른 건 몰라도 상황이 시애틀에서는 저절로 풀려나가는 것 같았다."

[해설]

[if nothing else]

적어도, 최소한 (말하는 내용이 특정 상황에서 유일한 것이라는 점을 나타낸다.) : if there's nothing else I can say ; used to emphasize one good quality or feature that someone or something has, while suggesting that it might be the only good one "최소한 (유일하지만) ~한 특성", 다른 건 몰라도; 다른 건 아니어도 이것 하나만큼은 ~ 하다

It's boring, but if nothing else, I can get my homework done. 

"그건 지루해, 하지만 적어도 내 과제는 끝낼 수 있다."

If nothing else, the report points out the need for better math education.

"다른 건 몰라도 최소한 이 보고서는 더 훌륭한 수학 교육의 필요성을 지적하고 있다."

If nothing else, his actions explained why people were wrong when they said he wasn't a competent father.

Even if his actions explained nothing else, they explained why people were wrong .... Or, Even if his actions explained only this one thing, they explained why people were wrong .... Usually there IS something else, but "If nothing else ... " lends emphasis to the point the speaker is making. " ~ 보통 다른 뭔가가 있겠지만 'if nothing else'를 사용함으로써 화자의 주장을 더욱 강조하게 된다."

Even if Joe were good at nothing else, he is so good at getting people to sign that we have to keep him.

= if nothing else, Joe is so good at ~ 

"조는 최소한 사람들이 계약에 사인하게 하는 데는 선수이므로 우리는 그를 보유해야 한다."

You can say 'if nothing else' to indicate that what you are mentioning is, in your opinion, the only good thing in a particular situation.

If nothing else, you'll really enjoy meeting them. "다른 건 아니어도 만나서 즐길 수는 있을 거야."

Let's say it's a social occasion, and you are to meet some people with whom you might become good friends. Or maybe not. But, says the friend who is introducing you to them, they are entertaining and fun to spend time with; If nothing else [even if no relationship develops beyond that occasion], you'll really enjoy meeting them.

"사교 모임이고 당신이 친구가 될 수도 있고 (그렇지 않을 수도 있는) 사람들을 만날 예정이라고 하자. 하지만 당신을 그들에게 소개하는 친구가 그들은 유쾌하고 함께 지내면 재미있는 사람들이라고 말한다. 다른 건 몰라도 [비록 그 모임 이후 아무런 관계의 진전이 없을 수도 있지만], 당신은 정말이지 그들을 만나서 즐기게는 될 거다."

   "Right," Sandy answered in a strangely flat tone.

   "Well?"

   Sandy evaded her question, stroking his cheek in a deliberating gesture of deep thought. "It's something to sleep (A)[   ]."

[sleep on [upon, over]]

1)  ~을 하룻밤 자며 생각하다; ~의 결정을 다음날까지 미루다 : delay making a decision on something until the following day  [생각에 붙여(on) 놓고 자는 것에서] 

I'm going to sleep on it tonight, and I'll make the decision tomorrow.

"전 오늘 자면서 생각해보고 내일 결정할게요."

Why don't you sleep on the offer and let us know your decision in the morning?

"하룻밤 생각하고 나서 아침에 결정을 알려 주세요."

[본문]

2)  우월성을 눈치채지 못하다, 못 알아보다 : fail to notice the excellence of someone or something
