    "That's just his way," said Jem. "They say he never got over his weddin'. He was supposed to marry one of the--the Spencer ladies, I think.     "그런데 왜 흑인들을 좋아하는 거야?"

   "뭐 그게 그의 방식이지."라고 젬 오빠는 말했다. "사람들 말로는 그는 그의 결혼식 사건을 극복하지 못 하고 있는 거래. 한 여자--스펜서 가의 여자와 결혼하기로 되어 있었는데. 성대한 결혼식을 할 작정이었지만 결혼 준비를 하고 난 후에 신부가 이층으로 올라가 자기 머리를 날려버렸데. 샷건으로. 발가락으로 방아쇠를 당겨서 말이지.
