# Dear Better Than Nothing,

Really? Is better than nothing what we're going for now? I was hoping for at least a lot better than nothing. Or perhaps even something. Have you (A)[        ] your marbles? In my book, any guy who can wait two weeks to see you, is just not that into you.

[lose (one's) marbles]

제정신을 잃다; 미치다 : If you say that someone has lost their marbles, you mean that their ideas or behavior are very strange, as if they have become insane.

[어원]

'marbles'(대리석, 구슬)는 한때 가구(furniture)를 뜻하는 슬랭이었는데 불어로 가구인 'meubles'를 'marbles'로 잘못 표기한 것이었다. 또 당시에는 'the human mind'에는 사용되지 않은 'mind-furniture'를 포함한 물건들이 가득한 곳이라 생각되었다. 이 두 가지가 섞여서 '마음속의 있어야 할 가구를 잃어버렸다'라는 것이 '제정신이 아니다'라는 뜻으로 사용되게 되었다.
