'cold turnkey'는 'all at once', 'abruptly'의 부사로 사용되는데 여러가지 설이 있지만 서브웨이에 가면 'cold cut'을 팔죠. 'cold turkey'는 요리 준비 시간이 짧아서 '즉시, 딱'의 의미를 갖는다고 하는 것이 기억하기 쉽다.

Six years ago, she went cold turkey on (= stopped completely) a three-pack-a-day smoking habit. "6 년 전에 그녀는 하루 3 갑 피우는 담배를 딱 끊었다."
