일명 죽마(stilt) 표현 'of'가 없는 것처럼 이해해도 된다.

VN 연어 : 머리를 짜내다 : to think hard about something, esp. to try and work out the answer to a difficult problem.

'racks'(고문대) 사이에 머리를 넣고 눌러 짜는 모습을 상상하면 이해가 잘 된다. 동사와 목적어의 연어로 암기해야 한다.

I've been racking my brain, but I still can't remember what Lydia's husband's name is.

"나는 머리를 쥐어짰지만 여전히 리디아의 남편의 이름이 뭔지 기억할 수 없다."

[under the weather]

좀 기분이 나빠, (몸이) 찌뿌듯한; 아픈; 숙취로; 거나하게 취해 : ailing; ill; slightly unwell or in low spirits; suffering from a hangover; drunk or intoxicated; having hangover [승선한 뱃사람이나 승객은 폭풍우 치고 비바람 불면 배는 흔들리고 흔들림이 심한 배 아래로(below the deck) 가는 데서 'under the deck and away from the weather'란 표현이 생겨났고 이후에 몸이 안 좋은 경우에도(feel unwell) 사용되게 되었다고 한다. 그리고 'drunk'의 완곡어로도 사용되는데 ㅎ 취하면 흔들거리죠. 숙취도 머리가 흔들 띵하죠.]

Hi John, it's Simon. Sorry but I can't come to work today--I'm a bit under the weather.

"하이, 존, 사이먼이야. 죄송한데 오늘 직장에 못 가겠어. 좀 몸이 안 좋아서."
